Pseudo Coins
Derisory term coined in recent years to signify pieces of precious metal, often struck in proof versions only, aimed at the international investment market. Many of these pieces, though bearing a nominal face value, are not legal tender in the countries purporting to issue them and in many cases they go straight from the overseas mint where they are produced to coin dealers in America and western Europe, without ever appearing in the so-called country of origin.
